Under the sea - a creative drama adventure camp - Summer ‘25

Campers went into role as scientists aboard a research vessel & explored the Great Barrier Reef & Great Southern Reef of Australia - by snorkel! They worked in silence while snorkeling in a fully decorated classroom that changed each day to be a coral and then a kep reef. Together, each small group came up with hand gestures to use while they located creatures and other items under the sea.

And then they travelled to a deep sea trench off the coast of Chile and dove deep in submarines to discover new deep sea creatures. This was in our darkened Lab blackbox theatre, with hidden creatures outlined by a special ink that only showed up under UV light. They had to work together in submarines to locate 11 hidden creatures of the deep.

Each day they also told Ship Stories that they created together, about the Featured Creatures: dugongs, mermaids, Sea Dragons (they puppeteered), and their own Deep Sea Creature. Sharing scenes they made, they were performing stories while in a story, much like how Shakespeare has plays within the play.

STEM + in-role long-form devised improvisational creative drama + performance + theatrical crafting + puppeteering + a whole lot of fun!
